Would you tell the readers a little bit about yourself?
I write dark urban fantasy romance that blends the fast action and world building of urban fantasy with steamy sex, deep emotional connection, and strongly-bonded characters. In my Primani Series, the men lean toward alpha without the chest thumping and peeing on the doorposts. Powerful, ruthless, immortal, they’ve been known to take charge and show a woman a good time…sometimes for eternity! Between their wicked weapons and supernatural powers, they’ve got the demon problem under control--mostly.
When I’m not writing, I’m hanging out with friends, reading, or catching up on my Supernatural fix. I’ll be the first to admit to a fan girl obsession with Dean Winchester. There’s no way to deny it. It’s sad really. He’s my guilty pleasure…maybe with a glass of Jim Beam…and my spotted muse, Dalmatian Princess Domino.
Which project are you currently promoting?
Darkness Calling is book five in the Primani Series. It’s a stand-alone title featuring characters from the earlier books.
Can you tell us what the book is about?
Writing Darkness Calling was a labor of love! Aisling, the heroine, isn’t a beloved character (until now!). She was uptight and absolutely bitchy to Sean when I introduced her in an earlier book. She’s managed to piss off all of my readers because Sean is one of everyone’s favorite Primani. So how to create a love match between these two? It wasn’t easy, but hey, I’m the writer so I get to work miracles! Before they wanted to kill each other, they were stranded together for a year. One thing led to another, and they had a son together. Fast forward seven years...
With a little, okay maybe a lot, of nudging by the archangel Raphael, they discover there’s more between them than just a small boy.

How did you come up with the title for this book?
Primani are the good guys. Made immortal by an archangel, they exist to give humans a fighting chance against the chaos of demons. This doesn’t mean they are pure, or always good, or completely moral. They still retain their humanity. Darkness Calling represents the struggle that Primani Sean and Aisling, and yes, even the demon Cain, face inside their minds. Centuries of loneliness and pain leave scars. Obsession, lust, fear, desperate sadness... sometimes the dark offers an escape for the wounded. Sometimes the dark hides their sins. Sometimes the darkness is impossible to resist even if it destroys them.
What inspired you to write this book?
I’ve been torturing Sean, the hero, for several books. I really wanted to give him a happy ending. I wanted him to find a woman who was just as intense and passionate as he is. This story is my way of easing all of the suffering I’ve put him through. He’s really an amazing character. He deserves this book!
What made you decide to become a writer?
I had foot surgery in 2012 and was stuck on the couch for a couple of really long, boring weeks. I read a bunch of books and watched a ton of movies. After reading the Twilight books, I thought, “I can do this!” and started fleshing out my first character Mica Thomas. Once I sat down and started writing her story, I couldn’t seem to stop. The words just came, and I realized this was my true calling!
What genre do you generally write?
All of my writing features supernatural and occult themes. The Primani Series could be classified as dark urban fantasy romance or paranormal romantic suspense. I’m working on an unrelated series that is most likely going to be classified as occult suspense. It’s not romantic at all.
Did you always want to be a writer?
If not what did you want to be? I changed my mind a million times between high school and 2012 when I wrote my first book! I wanted to be a news reporter, a criminal profiler for the FBI, a spy, a chef with my own restaurant, and at one point, a brain surgeon. I ended up joining the Air Force to get into college, stayed for 20 years, finished an MBA, and went to work for the government in IT. Sooooo, clearly I’ve been all over the map!
When did you first consider yourself a “writer”?
I first considered myself a real writer after I finished the edits on my first book, Primani. I remember thinking “I’ve done it!”
What character out of your most recent work do you admire the most and why? I absolutely adore Sean. He’s an amazing soldier with a dry, sarcastic sense of humor. He’s one of the toughest fighters I’ve created, yet he is profoundly gentle with his young son. I’ve thrown so much at him, but he always manages to come out stronger.
How long does it usually take you to write a book, from the original idea to the culmination?
It generally takes me about four months-ish.
How do you deal with negative reviews?
I shrug them off. Not everyone will love my stories, my writing style, or my ‘voice.’ I understand that. After all, I don’t love everything I read. Still, I read each review carefully to see what I can learn from it. I’m not perfect, and I don’t expect to ever be!
What other projects are you currently working on?
I’m putting together a funny, upbeat novella that focuses on Dec and Rori’s wedding. Their story was told in Broken Souls (Primani #4). These are my two most romantic characters, and I thought they deserved a real wedding, but it just didn’t fit into the other book! The novella will be a companion to the series and is just for fun.
When you begin a new MS, does it start with an idea, concept, or both?
Both! The Primani Series features characters with psychic abilities, and in most cases, they are new to the game and have to learn how to use them. Before I begin writing, I create the characters I want to explore, give them a challenge, and then sort out the details of their psychic abilities. I adore playing with the powers of our minds so I do a lot of research into obscure talents and try to bring them to my pages.
Is there a message you’d like to get across through your story?
Darkness Calling is about guilt and fear, love and redemption, and the healing power of awesome sex. Seriously. Okay, there’s more to it than that, but Aisling (the heroine) has had a horrible existence and straddles the line between doing what’s right and doing what feels good.
Is there a genre you’d never consider writing? If so, why?
I couldn’t possibly ever write sweet romance. I love writing sex too much, and I use a lot of profanity!
What is your least favorite part about getting published?
Editing! Ugh! By the time I send my MS to my editor, I’ve already read and edited three times. I don’t want to look at it again!
Was the road to publication a long one for you?
I’m self-published, so no. It’s been an exciting road!
Do you use a pen name? If so, why?
Nope.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
In five years I’ll have finished this series and hopefully, several more books. I’ve got another series that I’ve started so that one will be done too.
What is the best advice you can give to a new author?
Write, write, and write! You cannot finish a book if you don’t sit down and devote time to crafting it. Writing well takes practice so you must do it consistently. If you write daily, even for only an hour at a time, your characters’ voices stay true and the story flows more smoothly.
